Mindfulness is more than learning about meditation—it is a skill that develops through practice.

Time Being is a weekly online mindfulness workshop designed to give you a dedicated time and supportive space to practice mindfulness meditation. Whether you are new to mindfulness or looking to establish a more consistent practice, this workshop offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the present moment, and make mindfulness a regular part of your life.

Why practice mindfulness?

Mindfulness has been extensively studied and is associated with a variety of mental and physical health benefits, including improved stress management, greater self-awareness, and support for overall well-being.

Many people learn about mindfulness, try it once or twice, and then move on. But mindfulness is a skill—and skills develop with practice. In order to be able to use mindfulness effectively in your everyday life, consistent practice is the key.

Think of mindfulness like learning an instrument, developing an athletic skill, or beginning an exercise routine. Understanding the concepts is helpful, but actually doing the practice is what allows the skill to develop.

That is the purpose of Time Being: to provide a consistent time each week to step away from the demands of daily life and practice. You do not need to attend Time Being to benefit from mindfulness. You don’t need anything at all. However, if you are just starting mindfulness practice, or you are wanting to deepen your practice, or find that you need the accountability of a group or specific time, Time Being is here for ya.

What to expect

Each weekly workshop centers on active mindfulness practice. I will start with some mindfulness information, we will likely follow a theme, and the majority of the time we will be meditating.

Sessions may include:

  • Time to relax and shift from productivity
  • Befriending emotions
  • Breath and body awareness practices
  • Working with worry and uncertainty
  • Letting go of judgment
  • Learning to respond instead of react
  • Meeting life as it is
  • Practical guidance for developing a mindfulness practice outside of the workshop

A drop-in workshop, with no requirements or prior training

You do not need prior mindfulness or meditation experience to benefit. You are not required to attend more than once.

You do not need to be in therapy to benefit from mindfulness. Nor do you need to attend my workshops to benefit from therapy. You do not need to be in therapy with me to attend the workshops. You can be seeing another therapist, or no therapist at all. These workshops are separate from my clinical work.

You do not need to attend for the entire workshop. If you need to arrive late, or leave early, that’s okay. This is a drop-in workshop. Come when you can, stay for as long as you are able.

You can miss workshops and dive back in. The more you attend, the more time and skill you will likely build, but missing a workshop will not cause you to miss out.

Mindfulness and counseling

Mindfulness can be a helpful complement to counseling and may support people working toward a variety of mental health and personal wellness goals.

Time Being is separate from individual counseling. It is not group therapy, psychotherapy, or a substitute for individual mental health treatment.

If you are currently working with me as a counseling client, you are welcome to participate in the workshop as an additional mindfulness practice. You may also participate if you have never been a counseling client or are not currently receiving therapy.

During the workshop, clients and community members participate on the same terms. Counseling relationships will not be acknowledged or discussed during the workshop.

A note about privacy

Because Time Being brings community members together in an online setting, participants may see the names of other people attending.

Someone you recognize may be participating for any number of reasons. Likewise, someone may recognize your name. Participants should not assume that another person is, or has ever been, a counseling client.

If you are a current or former counseling client, please understand that participating in a workshop associated with my practice may create a possibility that someone could recognize you as being associated with the practice.

For this reason, Time Being should be viewed as a community mindfulness and self-development activity, not as a confidential therapy group.

Make time for Time Being

You don’t have to wait until life slows down to practice mindfulness.

Set aside one hour each week to pause, practice, and be present with others with similar goals, with a mindfulness counselor. Time Being is an invitation to make that time intentional.
